Support At Home: what does this mean for you?
The Australian Government is changing the way it funds home care services, replacing the Home Care Package (HCP) with a new system called Support at Home (SAH). This change is happening because a review from The Royal Commission found that the current system is too complicated and doesn't give older Australians enough help to live independently at home.
Key changes
Simpler and more integrated: the program combines HCP and CHSP into one flexible system. Fairer funding: everyone gets the right amount of care for their individual needs. More transparency: clearer pricing and better regulation. More flexibility: more control over your care services. Focus on independence: to help maintain or improve physical, mental, and cognitive abilities.
The three categories of spending
Clinical Care: medical and health services provided by professionals like nurses and therapists, fully government funded. Independence Support: help with daily activities, where the government may cover most costs. Everyday Living: non-medical services like housework and meal prep.
Can Lumin be covered?
Lumin may be covered under the Support at Home program. The AT-HM Scheme provides funding in three tiers: Low (under $500), Medium (up to $2,000), and High (up to $15,000) for necessary equipment. Depending on assessed needs, Lumin may be funded under this scheme, and may support clinical, independence, and everyday living aspects of a plan.
