Can I use Support at Home, NDIS, or other funding for Lumin?

    Last updated 28 July 2026

Yes — Lumin can be funded through several Australian government programs. Most customers don't pay for their CareHub entirely out of pocket. The right path depends on what funding the household is eligible for and what their plan supports.

    Support at Home (SAH)

Support at Home is the most common funding pathway for Lumin and the one most new customers will use. Lumin can be claimed under three SAH service categories:

    • Assistive Technology — the most common category for the CareHub
    • Clinical Support
    • Independence Which category the CareHub falls under for any given person usually depends on a health professional's assessment — most often an Occupational Therapist. The OT looks at the person's needs and recommends the category that fits. Once that's decided, there are two ways to submit a Lumin quote to a Support at Home provider:
    • The customer submits it themselves, using the quote as the supporting document
    • Lumin submits on the customer's behalf — if the customer gives Lumin the right contact at their provider, we can liaise directly to save them the back-and-forth There's more detail on Support at Home — eligibility, how the program works, and how Lumin fits in — on the Families & Friends and Care Professionals pages on mylumin.org.

    NDIS

Lumin can also be claimed under the National Disability Insurance Scheme. NDIS funding requires a disability assessment in the context of the participant's plan — it's the participant's individual NDIS plan and how that plan is structured (self-managed, plan-managed, or provider-managed) that determines what's claimable. As with SAH, Lumin can liaise with the participant's plan manager or provider if helpful, with the participant's consent.

    Other funding pathways

A few other programs can be used to fund Lumin, with limitations:

    • DVA (Department of Veterans' Affairs) — possible for eligible veterans
    • CHSP (Commonwealth Home Support Programme) — still active until at least November 2027, after which it transitions to Support at Home
    • GEAT — possible but funding ceilings often don't cover the full Lumin setup For each of these, Lumin works with the household and the funding body to see what's possible. There aren't separate processes per program — the model is the same: request a quote, then submit it to the funder.

What if I'm not eligible for any of these?

That's perfectly fine. Many households pay privately, either monthly (renting the CareHub) or with an outright purchase. The Plans article explains the options.

    How to start

The first step is the same regardless of funding pathway: request a quote. With the quote in hand, the funding conversation can begin. There's a separate article on the ordering process that walks through this end to end.
