How do I connect a Bluetooth device to the CareHub?
Last updated 28 July 2026
You can pair a Bluetooth speaker, headphones, or keyboard with the CareHub. This is useful if you'd like louder sound from a separate speaker, private listening through headphones, or easier typing on a keyboard.
Step by step
- Make sure the Bluetooth device is switched on and in pairing mode (each device is different — check the device's own instructions).
- On the CareHub, press and hold the power button at the back until three options appear: Power Off, Reboot, Settings.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap the grey System Settings button on the right.
- The CareHub will ask for a PIN. Enter 8888 and tap OK.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned on (toggle at the top).
- The CareHub will scan for nearby devices. Tap the name of your device once it appears.
- If a pairing code appears — the CareHub and the device may each show a code, or one of them prompts for confirmation. This code is generated fresh for each pairing attempt, not a fixed Lumin PIN. Check the codes match (where both devices show one) and tap Pair on the CareHub. Tap to confirm on the other device if it asks. The device is now paired. Audio from the CareHub will play through it; typing on a Bluetooth keyboard will enter text on the CareHub. To return to the home screen, press the back button or wait — the CareHub returns automatically after a short period.
Disconnecting or removing a Bluetooth device
If you'd like to stop using a paired device — say, you want sound back on the CareHub's own speakers — you can either:
- Turn the Bluetooth device off. The CareHub will fall back to its own speakers.
- Disconnect or forget the device in Settings. Following the same steps above, in the Bluetooth screen, tap the device and choose Disconnect or Forget.
Common questions
Does the CareHub support Apple AirPlay or Google Cast? No — the CareHub uses standard Bluetooth for audio routing to speakers and headphones. AirPlay and Cast aren't supported. Can a Supporter pair a Bluetooth device remotely? No — pairing has to be done on the CareHub itself, in System Settings. Lumin Support can talk a household through it over the phone. Why does the CareHub ask for a PIN? The PIN 8888 guards System Settings (the deeper Android-style menu where Bluetooth pairing lives). It isn't a secret — it's there so the CareHub user can't wander into Android settings by accident and change something that affects how the device works for them. Supporters, carers, village staff, and Lumin Support all use it when they need to. It is separate from any pairing code a Bluetooth device might ask for during pairing — that pairing code is generated fresh each time and shown on the device itself.
