How long does the CareHub's battery last?
Last updated 4 August 2026
The CareHub has an internal battery, primarily for short power-cut bridging and brief moves around the home rather than for sustained portable use. It's designed to be plugged into mains power continuously.
When the battery matters
The internal battery kicks in:
- During a power cut — the CareHub keeps running until the battery depletes, so calls and messages can continue briefly
- When briefly unplugged — for moving between rooms, cleaning around the device, or reorganising
- During a planned move — enough capacity to transport the CareHub from one location to another without losing operation
Approximate battery life
Battery life depends on which hardware generation your CareHub is and how it's being used:
- V1 hardware: roughly 4–8 hours on the internal battery, depending on use (less under active video calls, more when idle).
- V2 hardware: up to 40 hours on standby. Active use shortens this, but the V2's battery is meaningfully longer-lasting than the V1's. If you're not sure which generation your CareHub is, Lumin Support can tell you.
Battery warning
When the battery gets low and the CareHub is not connected to mains power, it gives an audible low-battery alert. There is no visual low-battery indicator on the home screen — the warning is sound only. Supporters also receive a low-battery alert in the Lumin Supporters App. If you want to check the battery level directly, press and hold the power button on the back for about five seconds to open Settings, where a battery status icon shows the current charge as a percentage. If the battery fully depletes, the CareHub turns off. It will turn itself back on automatically when plugged back in, and the battery will recharge in the background. Settings, contacts, photos, and reminders are all preserved.
What the battery isn't for
The CareHub is not designed for sustained battery use. It's not a portable device like a tablet — the screen is large, the speaker is full-size, and the battery is sized accordingly. If you find yourself relying on the battery often (frequent unplugging, moving room-to-room with the CareHub), consider:
- A more stable location — a place where the CareHub can stay plugged in continuously
- A power strip — if cable management is the issue, a discreet power strip nearby is usually easier than moving the CareHub
- Multiple CareHubs in a larger home (some households have one in the lounge and one in the bedroom)
Battery replacement
The internal battery has a working life of several years. If you notice the battery is dramatically shorter than it used to be, or the CareHub no longer holds charge at all, contact Lumin Support — we can diagnose remotely and arrange a replacement device if needed (covered by warranty for genuine battery degradation, not for accidental damage).
