How do I start a video call on the CareHub?
Last updated 28 July 2026
Video calling is one of the most-used features on the CareHub. It's designed to be effortless — a single tap to make or answer a call, and large faces on the screen so it feels like the person is really there.
Calling from the CareHub
Both one-to-one and group video calls start the same way:
- On the CareHub home screen, tap the Phone tile.
- You'll see your Supporters as icons with their photos and names.
- Tap the person you'd like to call.
- Tap the orange Video camera icon to start a video call (or the black phone icon for audio only). The call rings on the Supporter's phone. They answer through the Lumin Supporters App.
Adding more people to a call (group video)
Group video calls support up to five people, including the person on the CareHub. Once a video call is connecting or in progress:
- Tap the grey + Add Participants button.
- Tap the Add button next to each Supporter you'd like to bring in.
- Tap Done. Each added Supporter receives a call on their phone and joins as soon as they answer.
Calling from the Supporters App
Supporters can also start a video call to the CareHub:
- Open the Lumin Supporters App.
- Tap Video Call on the home screen, or tap the green Video Call button.
- The call rings on the CareHub. For group video from the Supporters App:
- Start the call as above.
- Tap the grey + button to add more participants.
- Tap Add next to the names you'd like to include.
Who you can video-call
Video calls work between the CareHub and people who are registered Supporters using the Lumin Supporters App. If you'd like to call someone who isn't a Supporter, you can make an audio-only call (using the Dial Pad on the CareHub — see the separate article). Standard call rates may apply. To add someone as a Supporter for full video calling, see the article on adding Supporters.
