How do I call someone using the CareHub Dial Pad?
Last updated 28 July 2026
The CareHub Dial Pad lets the person on the CareHub call any phone number directly — useful for calling people who aren't set up as Supporters (a GP, a chemist, a friend without the Supporters App).
How to use the Dial Pad
- On the CareHub home screen, tap the Phone tile.
- Tap the Dial Pad icon (it looks like a 3×3 grid of numbers, usually labelled "Dial Pad" underneath).
- Tap the digits of the number you'd like to call.
- Tap the green Call button to begin the call. The call is audio-only — Dial Pad calls cannot be video. The person you're calling answers on their regular phone.
What the Dial Pad is good for
- Phoning a doctor's surgery, pharmacy, or other service
- Reaching family who aren't set up as Supporters
- Calling someone overseas (use country code first, like +44 for the UK)
- Quick everyday calls — taxi, hairdresser, that sort of thing
What to know
- Call charges may apply. The CareHub is connected to a Lumin phone number, and outbound calls follow the rates on the household's plan. The Ease of Mind and Rest Assured plans include unlimited calls to national numbers; Just Connect doesn't include calls. See the Plans article for what's covered.
- Dial Pad is available on standard CareHub. On the simplified Lumin OneTouch interface — designed for people living with dementia or significant cognitive change — the Dial Pad is hidden by default because the open-ended dialling experience isn't right for that user. If a OneTouch user needs to make a specific call, a Supporter or the village can set up a contact for them.
Receiving calls from non-Supporters
If someone who isn't a Supporter calls the CareHub's number, the call comes through as an audio call. The person on the CareHub can answer with a single tap, or let it go to voicemail (see the separate Voicemail article).
