Can I add my own apps like Spotify or Netflix to the CareHub?
Last updated 28 July 2026
Short answer: yes, on request — and with one important caveat about logins. By default, the CareHub doesn't show apps like Spotify, Netflix, or YouTube. That's a deliberate design choice, not a missing feature. The CareHub is built around the principle of no passwords, no logins, no app stores — so the things that show up on it are things the person can use immediately, without setting anything up. For some households, though, an extra app makes sense. Maybe a Spotify family subscription is already in use, or someone really enjoys their Netflix shows. In those cases, additional apps can be activated.
How activation works
Contact Lumin Support and let us know which app or service you'd like activated. We'll:
- Confirm whether the app is supported on the CareHub.
- Activate it on your device.
- Help you sign in once, so you don't have to do it again. The sign-in step matters. Apps like Spotify and Netflix require an account login, which the CareHub doesn't normally do. Once Lumin signs the app in for you (with your credentials, on your behalf), the app stays logged in. The person on the CareHub just taps the app icon — no entering passwords.
What's typically requestable
- Spotify (with an existing account)
- Netflix (with an existing account)
- YouTube (sign-in optional)
- ABC iView, SBS On Demand, 7plus, 9Now, 10 Play, ABC Listen — Australian free-to-air streaming
- TVNZ+, ThreeNow — New Zealand free-to-air streaming
- Web browser — for accessing any website (also activatable on request)
- Other services — ask Lumin Support; many are possible
What's not typically activated
- Apps that require account creation on the CareHub itself (banking, government services) — the security model around these doesn't fit the CareHub's "no passwords" design.
- Games or apps that need ongoing account management.
- Anything that would advertise to the user.
If the account holder changes (or you cancel a subscription)
If you change your password on a service like Spotify, the CareHub's app stays signed in until it tries to refresh — at which point it may need a re-sign-in. Contact Lumin Support and we'll help re-sign you in remotely. If you cancel a subscription, the app remains on the CareHub but won't be able to play content. You can ask Lumin Support to remove the app from the CareHub if you'd prefer.
