Can the CareHub be moved between rooms or homes?

    Last updated 28 July 2026

Yes — the CareHub is portable. It can be moved between rooms in the same home, between houses if you're moving, and even taken on a holiday. Here's what to know.

    Moving between rooms

For a quick change of room — moving the CareHub from the lounge to the kitchen, or to a bedside table:

    • Unplug the power adapter from the wall.
    • Carry the CareHub to the new spot. It's roughly the weight of a large book.
    • Plug the power adapter back in.
    • Make sure the new location has good Wi-Fi signal, or that the CareHub's 4G backup will work there. The CareHub turns itself on automatically once plugged in. Settings, contacts, photos, and reminders are all preserved. If the new room has weak Wi-Fi, the CareHub may go offline temporarily — Supporters may receive an Offline notification. That's normal and not a worry. The CareHub will reconnect once it finds signal, or once you move it back to a better spot.

    Moving to a new home

If you're moving house and taking the CareHub with you:

    • Pack the CareHub and its power adapter carefully — the original box is ideal if you still have it.
    • Contact Lumin Support a few days before the move. We'll update your address on file and make sure your service follows you.
    • At the new home, plug it in as usual. The CareHub will connect to whichever Wi-Fi you set up there. If you need help connecting to a new Wi-Fi network, there's a separate article on that — or call Lumin Support and we'll talk you through it.

Taking the CareHub on a holiday

The CareHub can travel with you for short stays — to a holiday house, a relative's home, anywhere in Australia or New Zealand:

    • Bring the power adapter.
    • Plug it in at the destination.
    • Connect to the local Wi-Fi (or rely on the built-in 4G).
    • Everything else just works. For longer stays or travel outside Australia and New Zealand, contact Lumin Support beforehand. We can confirm whether the destination's network and any local regulations are compatible.

What to know about the move

    • The CareHub is designed to be plugged in continuously. Frequent unplugging shortens its useful life over time and causes more Offline notifications than is comfortable.
    • It's not waterproof — keep it out of the bathroom or anywhere it might get splashed.
    • The device weighs roughly 2.5 kg, comfortable to carry but not pocket-sized.
    • If the new location has only the 4G connection (no Wi-Fi), call quality may be slightly less crisp than on Wi-Fi, but everything still works.
