I already have an emergency pendant — what should I do?
Last updated 28 July 2026
If you already have an emergency pendant from another provider — perhaps a longstanding personal alarm — you may not want to switch to a Lumin pendant just because you've started using Lumin. That's fine. Here's how to handle the overlap.
Option 1: Keep your existing pendant and turn off CareHub emergency
If your existing pendant is working well for you and is integrated with a monitoring service you trust, the simplest approach is to keep using it and turn off the CareHub's emergency button. Lumin Support can disable the emergency tile on your CareHub so the device isn't a parallel emergency channel. Your existing pendant remains your primary emergency response. The rest of the CareHub — calls, messages, photos, calendar — keeps working as normal.
Option 2: Use the Lumin pendant alongside your existing one
Some households prefer to keep their existing pendant as a backup and add the Lumin pendant alongside. This works, though the two pendants will trigger different response chains:
- Existing pendant — your current monitoring or response service
- Lumin pendant — per your Lumin plan (Supporters on Ease of Mind, monitoring centre on Rest Assured) If you press both pendants accidentally, both responses are triggered. Most households find one is enough.
Option 3: Switch entirely to the Lumin pendant
If the Lumin pendant covers your needs and you'd like to consolidate, contact your existing pendant provider to cancel that service, and contact Lumin Support to enable the Lumin pendant. The Lumin pendant is included free on Ease of Mind and Rest Assured plans. Before switching, make sure the Lumin response model matches what you need:
- Ease of Mind: family Supporters are the responders
- Rest Assured: 24/7 monitoring centre is the primary responder The separate article on emergency response by plan walks through the options.
What to do
Contact Lumin Support and let us know which of these you'd prefer. We can arrange the relevant configuration — disable the CareHub emergency, pair the Lumin pendant, or do both. There's no extra charge for any of these adjustments.
