How do I add a web browser to the CareHub?
Last updated 28 July 2026
The CareHub doesn't show a web browser by default — the design principle is no logins, no app stores, no general web browsing. For most users, the curated experience is the right experience. But for households that genuinely need web browser access — for a specific website, a community portal, online banking, government services — a browser can be activated on request.
How to activate a browser
Contact Lumin Support and let us know:
- Which CareHub the browser is for
- What the browser will be used for (helps us recommend the right setup)
- Whether the user is comfortable using a browser (we may suggest a simplified version or a single-purpose bookmark setup) Lumin can enable:
- Mozilla Firefox — the default browser option
- Google Chrome — for compatibility with sites that prefer it
- A simplified browser — with limited features for users who'd find a full browser overwhelming The browser appears as a tile on the CareHub home screen once activated.
What to expect
Web browsing on the CareHub works similarly to web browsing on a tablet:
- Tap the browser tile to open it
- Type a URL or search term in the address bar
- Tap links to navigate
- Zoom by pinching (some users find the CareHub's larger screen reduces the need to zoom) Because the CareHub is touchscreen-based and designed for older adults, some websites work better than others. Sites with clear large buttons, simple navigation, and minimal pop-ups are easiest to use.
What about logins and passwords?
The CareHub's general design principle — no logins, no passwords — doesn't extend to web browsers. Sites that require a login will require typing in a username and password, just like on any device. For specific sites that the user accesses regularly, Lumin can:
- Save the login in the browser so the user doesn't need to retype every time
- Bookmark the site so it's a single tap to access
- Create a dedicated tile on the home screen for that specific site Talk to Lumin Support about which setup would work best.
Removing a browser
If the browser isn't being used or is causing more confusion than value, Lumin can remove it from the CareHub. Just contact Lumin Support.
