What happens to Lumin if I move from home to aged care?

    Last updated 28 July 2026

If you're moving from your own home into residential aged care, your Lumin can come with you. Many of our customers continue using their CareHub through the move and beyond — it's often more important during that transition than at any other time.

    What stays the same

    • Your CareHub stays with you. It's your device — your contacts, your photos, your Supporters all travel with you.
    • Your Supporters keep their access as long as you'd like them to.
    • The Lumin platform continues to work as it did before.

    What might change

    • Your plan may need to adjust. Some aged care facilities use Lumin under a facility-wide arrangement. If yours does, your individual plan may transition to a facility-managed setup — Lumin Support will coordinate with the facility to make this seamless.
    • Your address on file needs updating. This matters for delivery of any future peripherals, and for emergency response on Ease of Mind and Rest Assured.
    • The internet connection changes. The CareHub's Wi-Fi needs to be set up to your new room's network (or the facility's network for residents).
    • Some features may be added. Aged care facilities using Lumin often have additional features — clinical care extensions, facility-wide announcements, integrated care management — that become available once you're using the facility's setup.

What to do before the move

Contact Lumin Support a few days before the move. We can:

    • Update your address on file
    • Liaise with the receiving aged care facility if they're already using Lumin
    • Help plan when the CareHub will be moved and reconnected
    • Arrange a refresher session at the new location if helpful If your aged care facility doesn't currently use Lumin, that's fine too — your CareHub continues to work as before, just at a new address.

    After the move

    Once at the new location:

    • Plug in the CareHub in your new room.
    • Connect to the local Wi-Fi. A staff member or the facility's IT can usually help with the Wi-Fi password.
    • Test a call with a Supporter to make sure everything's working.
    • Update any reminders or routines that were tied to your old setting. If anything isn't quite right, contact Lumin Support — we'll talk you (or the facility staff) through it.

    Funding considerations

If your previous funding pathway was Support at Home or NDIS, moving into residential aged care may change what funding applies. A move into residential aged care typically shifts you out of those community-based programs and into the residential aged care funding model. The aged care facility's staff are usually the best people to help navigate this; Lumin Support can talk to them on your behalf if helpful.
