How does Lumin monitor the platform and offer 24/7 AI-assisted support?
Last updated 28 July 2026
Lumin runs continuous monitoring of every device on the platform — 24 hours a day, every day of the year — alongside an AI-assisted support layer that handles questions outside human support hours. Together they're how Lumin keeps the service reliable and accessible without requiring people to wait until business hours.
What Lumin monitors
For every CareHub: connection status (is the device online), power status, software health, functional checks (verification that core features are working). For the Lumin Supporters App and Lumin App: service availability, notification delivery. For the Community Management Portal: availability, functional checks. For the platform as a whole: capacity and load, security, third-party integrations (Lumin Connect connectors).
What happens when Lumin sees a problem
When monitoring detects an issue: Lumin Support is alerted automatically (no one needs to call us; we already know). For platform-wide issues, Lumin's technical team is notified. For device-specific issues, Lumin Support reaches out to the affected household, village, or care provider — usually before they notice. For widespread issues, a status page or proactive communication may go out. Most issues are detected and resolved without the customer noticing.
AI-assisted support, 24/7
Outside human support hours (9am–5pm every day including public holidays, AU (AEST/AEDT) and NZ (NZST/NZDT) time), Lumin's AI-assisted support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. What it can do: answer common questions; walk through troubleshooting steps; hand off to human support during opening hours; log interactions so context is preserved. What it can't do (yet): make account changes; process billing or refunds; replace a human in complex emotional situations (bereavement, hardship, distress); handle a genuine emergency.
How to use AI-assisted support
Lumin is launching AI-assisted support across multiple channels: web chat on mylumin.org, in-app chat in the Lumin Supporters App and Lumin App, and a phone IVR option. A chat option directly on the CareHub is planned for the near future. Until AI-assisted support is fully live across these channels, the human support team during opening hours remains the primary route. If a channel above isn't yet available when you try it, just call or email Lumin Support — a human agent will help directly. When you do reach AI-assisted support, if it can't answer your question, it'll direct you to a human support agent during opening hours, take your question for next-business-day follow-up, or provide guidance on where else to look.
Why this matters
Lumin's customers include older adults and people in vulnerable circumstances. Many issues come up at times when traditional support is closed. The combination of continuous monitoring and 24/7 AI-assisted support means customers don't wait for help on routine questions, Lumin sees problems before customers experience them, and service stays reliable because we're paying attention all the time.
What this isn't
It isn't a clinical monitoring service. Lumin monitors the platform, not the resident's health (except where specific features like Daily Wellbeing Checks are active). It isn't surveillance. Monitoring sees device events, not what the person is doing on the device. It isn't a replacement for human support. AI-assisted support handles the routine; humans handle the meaningful.
